What's it all about?
There are moments in life when you get the chance to be part of something so big, so amazing, so awesome that you simply have to grab it with both hands and both feet. Charity Week is the MOTHER of all student projects - it is not an event, it is not an opportunity, it is not even a week - it's an experience!
Charity Week began in 2004 as a grass root project by a small team of students from the University of London Union Islamic Society. This daring handful set out with a simple vision of uniting other Muslim students upon Islam and reliving the Quran verse “Hold fast on to the rope of Allah and be not divided”. Since then Charity Week has grown at a phenomenal rate Alhamdulilah and not enjoys participation from students not only throughout the British Isles but across the world.
For one week in the year students nationwide work in breathtaking synchrony to raise as much money for orphans and needy children across the globe. Muslim students are encouraged to place their differences aside and the participation of many non-muslims is also warmly welcomed. Every year one Charity Week champ is chosen from amongst the participants. Since its inception five years ago over 100 organisations from a variety of backgrounds have participated.
5 years on close to £1,000,000 has been donated to orphans. Charity Week remains to date one of the most powerful projects initiated by ULU ISOC.
